Covid tried to postpone their day but they got married anyway. Sydney + Chris opted for an intimate wedding day with their closest people and it was absolutely incredible !! I'm convinced that there are two types of people in this world: the ones that sits quietly in the Uber and the other ones that ask the Uber driver 1 million questions and end up having some very deep life chats with them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Which one do you think I am?! I changed my major 6 times in college 🙊 YUP. I walked into the admissions office one too many times, signed the papers, and got a new advisor - just like clockwork. I started college as an elementary education major, moved to communications, to psychology, to business, back to education, and then finally landed back on psychology!! And somehow through all the chaos I managed to finish off my degree in 3.5 years 🤷🏼‍♀️ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Most would look at what I’m doing now as not using my degree, but I’m a firm believer in college being worth so much more than the pricey piece of paper you get as you graduate! My path would been vastly different if I hadn’t gone to UW-La Crosse. The lessons I learned went far beyond the classroom - from spending many nights dancing on sticky bar floors with my now closest friends and (slowly but surely) learning my beverage limit, falling so hard in love while learning how to love myself, from navigating countless part time jobs in order to buy cheap plane tickets for spring break, and so much more. I wouldn’t go back and change that experience for the world. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ So if you’re like a young Ali Lockery and you’re thinking “what the heck am I doing” - trust yourself and know that your purpose is out there and it’ll come to you! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Now I’m curious, what’s something that you learned beyond the classroom?!I changed my major 6 times in college 🙊 YUP. Want to know how I gained hands-on experience as a wedding photographer?! Second shooting + assisting!! I spent an entire year as helping out + shadowing various photographers. In that first year, I did nearly 25 weddings learning the ins and outs of the industry and it helped me immensely !! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Top tips for starting out as a second photographer + assistant: ✨Reach out to photographers you look up to! Make sure you send a personalized email letting them know who you are, why you'd be qualified to work for them, and a list of your gear! If you don't have much experience or gear - offer to assist them! ✨Be sure to ask the photographers what their protocol is with letting second photographers use images for their own portfolios! I worked with some who let me use the images + would credit them every time I second shot with them (like this image for example - second shot with my girl: @racheltraxler MISS YOU) and others who didn't allow me to use the images - either way you gain SO much experience by just getting in the room!! ✨Be open to working for no pay - at first! Yes, don't get me wrong your time is so valuable and you should be compensated for it, but knowing the knowledge and experience you'll gain is so worth putting in a few days of unpaid labor. ✨Try learning from various photographers! In your first few years, you'll learn so much about what you like and dislike in the business! For example, maybe you primarily love photographers who do more prompting + have a more laid back approach to wedding photography - try reaching out and shooting alongside someone who does more posing, editorial-like weddings. You'll be a better well, rounded photographer with the different experience you'll bring to the table for your future couples! ✨Remember: you are there under the primary photographer's brand + they worked so hard to get that wedding! Me walking into the local Mexican restaurant once they safely open their doors knowing dang well I had their tacos 2x per week in quarantine !!! Mexican food is my weakness - I could eat it for every meal, just ask @kemp__2!! I’ve been getting back into the habit of reading orrr I guess I should say listening to books being read to me. I’m an enneagram 3 so thinking about sitting down to read a book makes me itchy !!! My brain races with so many ideas while trying to read that I quite literally miss out on paragraphs 😂😅 anyone else !? Please tell me I’m not alone in this!! I use @audible and I absolutely love it! I play the audio books while I’m driving, on walks with Sonny, and even I’m working away on a mindless task. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Some of my recent favorites are: ✨ Profit First by @mikemichalowicz | great for all business owners who want to drive profits in their biz!! He gives you tangible steps and outlines how to literally profit first! ✨ The Fifth Vital Sign by @fertilityfriday | LADIES!!! You have got to read this one! One of my biggest goals in life is to have a house on the lake. Yesterday I spent most of the day dreaming about it and of course checking out Trulia for local lake listings. I can picture it so perfectly - hosting friends + family, cruising on the boat all day, and topping the evening off with a bonfire. Sounds so dang dreamy ✨ what are some of your life goals?!One of my biggest goals in life is to have a house on the lake.
